Mandarin Tutor

The school offers an extensive programme of extra-curricular activities delivered before the school day starts, during lunch time and after school from 3.45 until 5.00 from Monday to Thursday.  Some examples of the broad range of activities on offer are football, karate, fencing, photography, movie making and drama.

Mandarin is offered as an additional extra-curricular option for pupils in year 7 and 8.  The Kingston Academy is therefore looking to recruit a part-time Mandarin tutor to run this extra-curricular club.

Position:                         Part-time Mandarin Tutor

Hourly rate:                    Negotiable (dependent on experience)

Commitment:                 6 hours per week (4 teaching and 2 planning)

Commencement:           September 2017

Closing date:                  Midday on Wednesday 21st June 2017

Interviews:                      Tuesday 27th June 2017

Mandarin Tutor – Person Specification

The successful applicant for this role would have the following attributes, qualifications and experience.


Good honours degree

Qualified teacher status (or equivalent)


Managing Mandarin initiatives impacting upon student achievement

Experience of teaching in a successful secondary school (nice to have)

Teaching and learning

Strong track record of teaching being judged to be at least good and outcomes of pupils in line with targets

Proven ability to teach outstanding lessons on a regular basis and lead by example

A commitment to giving every student an equal opportunity to be successful

To be committed to personal CPD


A strong classroom communicator in the English language

Excellent written communication and feedback

The ability to engage pupils and command their attention in a classroom context
