A Message from Ms Sophie Cavanagh
It is my great honour to have taken on the role of Headteacher of The Kingston Academy, our new local secondary school. TKA is an innovative 11-18 academy which first opened its doors to pupils in September 2015. We currently have over 530 pupils in Year 7, 8 and 9 and will increase by one additional year group every year. The school is also well over-subscribed for September 2018.
The school was set up by the Kingston Educational Trust, a partnership between Kingston University, Kingston College and The Royal Borough of Kingston. Our links with these prominent local educational institutions provide us with unparalleled opportunities for enriching your child’s education, through access to their facilities, resources and expertise.
The school is now at an exciting stage of our development as this year we moved into our newly renovated building. The project to build a large modern building to house our growing school is now well underway.
I am committed to leading an inclusive school that focuses on the serious business of achievement for our pupils. We expect our pupils to behave well, work hard and embrace all the opportunities we will share together. Our school nurtures respect, responsibility, reflectiveness and collaboration. Above all, I am determined that our pupils will move forward in life as kind, resilient, confident individuals who are equipped to make a positive contribution, anywhere in the world.
The school offers a traditional core curriculum grounded in the basics of numeracy and literacy that merges the very best of traditional practice with cutting edge new technology. All our pupils use Chromebooks to take advantage of the many benefits of eLearning in furthering their education.
We make it our priority to ensure a smooth transition from primary to secondary through excellent pastoral care. We also work closely in partnership with our feeder primary schools, learning from their experience with your child in order that we can ensure the very best start for all.
At The Kingston Academy there are an abundance of exciting enrichment opportunities for your child to explore in sport, enterprise, music, community engagement and cultural events. We want pupils to look beyond their own school and engage with the community around them and all it has to offer in other local schools and local organisations.
It is my responsibility as Headteacher to provide your child with an outstanding education that nurtures their talents, interests and aspirations and, in line with our school motto, goes beyond what is ordinarily possible. In partnership with parents and the community, I know that together we will deliver a memorable experience the product of which will be happy, inspiring individuals who are equipped to face their future aspirations and challenges.
